Sketchbook Challenge 2011

I am joining the Sketchbook Challenge  for this year. I found out about it from a friend and it looks like fun as well as a way to stretch as an artist.

Each month a theme will be announced. We’re to use that theme to guide our entries into our sketchbooks. They will be offering tutorials so there will be opportunities for learning new techniques.

There will also be drawings each month for fabulous prizes: books, magazines, art supplies…

I haven’t actually gotten my sketchbook out – too busy trying to recoup from the Christmas crunch.  I plan to get mine out tomorrow – I have an idea I want to work on.

Why keep a sketchbook?  A few ideas come to mind: many of my quilts have started out as a quick sketch in a notebook; a sketchbook is a great place to try a new technique in a small space; a sketchbook is wonderful to go back to years later to see how your creativity expresses itself.

Are you going to come play with me?

  4. I’m doing the sketchbook challenge too! But life has come flooding in and I haven’t had a chance to respond to this month’s theme. It’s a tough one. I’ve got several things bouncing around in my head so we’ll have to see what happens with that. I think it will be fun to share this with local friends!
