We are in Florida for the week. We started our week with a visit with Steve’s Dad, Jack, in Tallahassee. Jack is 91 and still lives independently. He is amazing; he is an inspiration to me and others around him. Here is Steve enjoying some time with his dad.
While we were there, Steve and I wanted to ride on the Rails to Trails that runs from Tallahassee to St Marks.
It’s a 16 mile path, but unfortunately for us, the first 5 miles are under construction being re-paved. We were able to park at the Woodville lot and begin riding the trail at that point. Round trip, we were able to ride 22 miles on a beautiful, shady, tree lined path:
That afternoon, Steve took his dad out to the cemetary to see his mom’s grave. She passed away 3 years ago:
She was a remarkable woman. Had her Bachelor’s degree in the early 40’s in languages. She was fluent in 5 languages, played bag pipes, knew the names of animals and plants by their scientific, Latin, names; and was the mother of 7. She is missed.
Yesterday morning, we invited Steve’s sister, Ann, and his brother and his wife, Rob and April, over for breakfast:
I guess Steve and his dad were “socialed out” because here is a shot of my lunch time companions:
We left Jack’s house yesterday afternoon and headed to Amelia Island. Steve has a conference to attend here. We were given a great room on the 6th floor, ocean side, with a balcony. Love it! We’re off for a day at Fernandino Beach and bike rides. More later today or tomorrow at the latest.
